Solomon Northup

Solomon Northup (1808-circa 1864-1875), was a free African American from Saratoga Springs, New York. Kidnapped and forced into slavery in 1841, Northup spent the following twelve years in bondage working on plantations in Louisiana. Upon gaining his freedom, he published an account of his experiences titled Twelve Years a Slave (1853).

Sue Eakin (1918-2009) taught history at Louisiana State University in Alexandria.

Joseph Logsdon (1938-2000) was an assistant professor of history at Louisiana State University in New Orleans.
